The MX-81 Hypersonic Operations Aircraft was a large set released in the Summer 2008 wave of Lego Mars Mission sets. It acts as a mobile command center for the Astros. Its features include the ability to pick up and drop the mining vehicle using a drop-down platform. The two side cockpits can split off from the main vehicle and fly in different configurations, and there is research equipment and a small satellite in the craft. The ship appears to be hard to fly, but it has a sturdy carry handle, making play easy. Along with the set comes a small mining vehicle and an alien vessel piloted by the Alien commander. The set also comes with 5 minifigures and several crystals. The Astros built the Hypersonic Aircraft to attack the overgrowing alien hive.

Fan-Review: The Hypersonic Operations Aircraft is in many ways the Eagle Command Base's equal. They have almost the same amount of bricks, they both have about the same amount of mini figures, and they both have similar features. Really, this set has it all. 20 lasers or so, spring launcher, transformations, mining rover, power crystals, an Alien pod,a tiny research lab, plus, it's mobile!
